The Ripped Dress At Dawn

The bright morning sun streamed through the massive glass windows of the grand estate in suburban Virginia. White marble floors reflected the crystal light overhead, creating a frame of absolute perfection for what was supposed to be the wedding of the year. Jessica stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling mirror, her white lace veil cascading down her back. Every detail of the mansion had been tailored to showcase her family's social standing. The prominent United States flag hung proudly in the foyer, framed by marble columns and pristine white walls. Everything was arranged to look spotless, wealthy, and completely unbreakable to the outside world.

Suddenly, the double doors of the bridal suite flew open with a sharp bang. Sarah stepped into the room, clutching her small handbag over her visible pregnant bump. Her light blue gown was modest, styled simple and elegant, contrasting sharply with the extravagant lace and diamonds surrounding her sister. Sarah's face was pale, her eyes rimmed with red from hours of keeping quiet. She took a single hesitant step forward, her hands trembling as she adjusted her posture. The tension in the room plummeted immediately, freezing the air between them.

Jessica: What are you doing in here right now?

Sarah: I had to hand this back to you before the guests sat down.

Jessica did not hesitate for a single second. She marched across the polished floor, her eyes burning with pure rage. Without a word of warning, Jessica grabbed the fine silk of Sarah's light blue gown and ripped it violently down the side seam. The sound of tearing fabric echoed across the grand hall like a whip snapping in the air. Sarah gasped, stumbling back into the decorative trim of the entry wall.

Two older aunts dressed in matching light blue skirt suits rushed forward instantly. Instead of helping Sarah, they gripped her arms tightly, locking her in place near the waving American flag. Sarah began to weep hysterically, her body shaking from the shock of the sudden aggression. She looked down at the ruined gown, exposed and trembling in front of her own family.

Sarah: No, please don't do this!

Jessica: You are going to regret everything!

Jessica: You planned this behind my back!

Jessica pointed her manicured finger inches from Sarah's face. The groom, David, stepped through the doorway, taking in the scene with a cold, hardened stare. His sharp black tuxedo made him look like a stranger rather than the man Sarah had known for years. He glided past the torn fabric on the floor, offering no comfort to the visibly pregnant woman being held against her will.

David: You ruined everything we built!

Sarah: Please, you have to listen to me! I didn't mean for any of this to happen!

Jessica: Get out of my sight right now!

The aunts shoved Sarah toward the tall heavy exit doors. Sarah managed to pull her handbag close against her stomach, her fingers blindly tapping the screen of her dark smartphone. She hit the quick-dial button for the only person who might still protect her. As the severe heavy doors slammed shut behind her, locking her out in the cold morning breeze, she held the phone against her ear with trembling hands.

Sarah: Dad, please help me... They won't even let me explain!
