The Young Master Collapses

The heavy oak double doors at the main entrance slammed open suddenly, breaking the tense silence that filled the grand room. A young man named Julian came rushing into the ballroom, his face pale with deep concern and panic. He was wearing an expensive blue velvet tuxedo with sleek black lapels and a neat bow tie. Julian was the heir to the massive estate and the family fortune that paid for this entire luxury event. He had heard the commotion from the side dressing room and ran as fast as he could to see what was happening. He expected to find a minor mistake by the catering staff, not his bride sprawling out on the hard marble floor.

As Julian ran toward the middle of the room, his eyes passed over Victoria and landed directly on the old woman sitting in the wheelchair. His heart stopped beating for a second, and his feet lost all their strength. He did not run to help Victoria pull herself off the ground, nor did he yell at the maid standing guard. Instead, he dropped straight down onto his knees with a loud thud, right on the hard marble next to Hannah and the wheelchair. His hands were shaking violently as he reached out and grabbed Hannah's dark arm, clutching her apron fabric in sheer desperation and terror. Tears flooded out of his eyes, running down his face in steady, heavy streams.

Julian: I am so sorry! Please forgive me!

Hannah: Look at what she did to her!

Julian: I should have stopped this long before today!

Eleanor: Julian, my sweet boy, please do not cry like this.

Julian: I failed you so badly, Mom!

The entire room gasped loudly as the deep secret spilled out into the open air for every guest to hear clearly. Eleanor was not a random intruder or a beggar off the street as Victoria had assumed. She was Julian's biological mother, the woman who had sacrificed everything she owned to raise him after his father died years ago. When Julian grew up and came into his massive trust fund, he had allowed his wealthy social circle to push his simple mother into the background. He had kept her existence hidden from Victoria because he was afraid his shallow girlfriend would judge his humble origins. He had left his mother in a quiet home, hiding her away from the shiny life he built.

Victoria sat up on the floor, her eyes wide with total confusion and growing horror as she watched her fiancé weep at the maid's feet. Her hand was still pressed against her swollen cheek, but her physical pain was completely forgotten. She looked at Eleanor, then at Julian, realization washing over her like a freezing bucket of water. The old woman she had just insulted and called a hag was the sole owner of the massive family trust fund. Eleanor held the legal deeds to the mansion, the property lines, and all the business assets that gave Julian his high social standing. Victoria had just destroyed her own future in front of every wealthy person in the city.

Julian squeezed Hannah's arm, looking up at the maid with eyes full of deep shame and regret. He knew that if Hannah had not stepped in with that powerful slap, his mother would have been thrown out into the cold streets like garbage. He felt a deep disgust toward himself for being so cowardly and allowing Victoria to act like a ruler over people. The shiny blue tuxedo he wore felt heavy and fake on his shoulders as he knelt there on the cold stone. He turned to his mother, placing his head against her thin knees while weeping like a small child who knew he had done something terribly wrong.
